Society is about to go through a Renaissance

Art will be different after COVID.

Last night I attended an indoor party. It was the first time in 14 months I have been in an environment like that. During COVID you almost never just run into someone you didn’t plan to see.

Humans need serendipitous collisions with others, unexpected run ins with another person that is eerily well timed because one of you has an idea that needed to he heard by another person to become realized.

It felt euphoric to collide with strangers again. I met a woman that raced cars on dirt tracks, a recent college grad that didn’t get to backpack through Europe so she road tripped through the US. I talked with an old friend about the Interplanetary File System. The randomness created sparks again.

It was contagious. People crave meeting smiling, laughing and sharing with other people.

We are entering a once-in-a-lifetime (maybe millennia) where human society shut down for a year, and now is re-opening. Many of the societal molecular bonds that held us together in the past have been broken, but as society comes back together new bonds will build. Different people will have serendipitous collisions and this start out as small waves and then swell up to being monster waves that only the bravest can surf on.

There won’t be another time like it, because at no time since WWII have we had such a massive repression of autonomy and connection. As the gates open up it is going to be a flood of people and ideas

Artists and musicians that spent their COVID time honing their skills will have huge audiences ready to imbibe new songs, painting, sculptures and theatre.

Just check this out a guy makes a video in his a silk bathrobe and some boxer briefs while mixing music in a tiny home office- the video got 10M views. You will never have another song play in your head when you are late in the morning.

When this man gets out of quarantine there are 10 million more people that want to hear his jams. The painters, sculptures, the event planners, the musicians, the food. It is all coming and a lot is going to have changed.
